How it works

Two instruments, two jobs. Here is what each actually does, step by step — and, at the end, what our advice will and will not tell you to do.

PHYTOSPEX — reading the soil

Four steps, start to finish, standing in the field.

PHYTOSPEX shines eight wavelengths of light — from violet through to near-infrared — into a soil sample and measures what comes back. The shape of that reflectance curve carries information about organic carbon, moisture, texture and nutrient status, which the instrument converts into soil health indicators.

  1. Calibrate

    Take a white and dark reference reading. This corrects for the light source and the day's conditions, and takes a few seconds.

  2. Scan the soil

    Set the instrument down at the plot and load a prepared soil sample. The LEDs fire in sequence and the detector records the reflected light from each one.

  3. Read the result

    The app converts the spectrum into soil health indicators — organic carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, pH, salinity and more — each shown with its confidence range and whether it is low, adequate or high.

  4. Act on the advice

    You get a ranked plan: which input, how much per acre, when to apply, and what it costs for your plot size. Recommendations are grounded in published ICAR and Soil Health Card guidance, and every dose is checked against a safe maximum before it is shown to you.

ENTOVE — watching for pests

Set up once, then it repeats itself every night for the season without anybody going out to it.

Each night's count goes out over a cellular link, geo-tagged and timestamped. Across a season those counts build a pest-pressure trend for that plot, and an alert is raised when the trend crosses the published threshold for the crop and pest being watched. It is the manual pheromone-trap count that ICAR and state extension already recommend — done every night, by the trap itself.

  1. Mount it at the plot

    The node goes on a pole at the edge of the field, and you fit the lure for the pest you want to watch. That choice is what makes the catch comparable to a published threshold rather than just a pile of insects.

  2. It works through the night

    Ultraviolet light and the lure draw night-flying pests in. A small sample is taken onto a plain tray so it can be photographed clearly — enough to identify and count, not enough to affect the field.

  3. It counts, and sends

    The catch is counted on the spot and the result goes out over the cellular link before morning, tagged with the location and the time. Nobody walks the field to read a trap.

  4. You get a trend, not a headcount

    Night after night the counts build a pest-pressure trend for that plot, and you are alerted when it crosses the published threshold for your crop and pest. The catch is a sample of what flew in — never a count of what is out there.

On advice and safety

Our advisory is a decision aid, not a prescription. It puts non-chemical and integrated practices first, caps every dose at a sourced safe maximum, and shows the source behind each recommendation. For anything unusual, confirm with your local agricultural officer or KVK.
